True.
This is perhaps the only “proper” (as in, “not a comic”) book I’ve ever re-read. I think it might be due for a third read.
Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close is one of my favorite books ever, and Jonathan Safran Foer is probably my favorite contemporary author. I’ve always imagined a film based on this book, it had the potential to be something great. Unfortunately, this will not be the case. This trailer indicates an abysmal movie.
Everyone looks completely miscast (I like Tom Hanks but he’s not the man for this part, and don’t get me started with Academy Award Winner Sandra Bullock) and overall tone is completely cheesy and manipulative, a far cry from what the book was.
I really don’t mind when films are not faithful adaptations of books - they’re not supposed to be (and it looks like this one will be fairly faithful to the book, as far as plot points are concerned). But what really bothers me is when the adaptations completely destroy the spirit of the original material. I believe this will be the case here. A damn shame.
Lisa has always been my favorite Simpson.
