Jeff Tweedy- Simple Twist of Fate

Always one of my favorite songs. Every time I hear it it’s like a knife cutting through my soul. Jeff Tweedy’s voice is fits this song almost as well as Bob Dylan’s. Almost.

I may have posted this before but I don’t care.

One of my rejected submissions to Paint My Album. Because they’re jerks.
I think it turned out pretty good. Check out the original cover here.

I just loved this album, and this is such a great song to end it. J. Spaceman, you’ve done it again!

Allo Darlin’ - Woody Allen

A sweet-as-pie pop song with clever lyrics that talk about Woody Allen and Ingmar Bergman? I am SOLD.

Hello Saferide - Anna

Great performance, I think I like this even more than the studio version.

Hello Saferide - The Quiz

I had to reblog. I can’t tell you how much I love it when Annika Norlin writes songs like this. So sweet and smart. So… right on the money. Listen to it!

Favorite line “do you talk in the middle of Seinfeld?”

New project!

I’ve been wanting to write more about my favorite subjects. Besides working on a few new screenplays and preparing for a doctorate that may or may not happen next year, I wanted to have something to write about somewhat frequently.

I still want to create my Tumblog on overlooked films, but in addition to that I think I will start a series of posts, right here, about my favorite singles. I will gradually collect my 50 (and maybe 100, depending on how I feel when I get to 50) favorite singles, listen to them on vinyl, and write about each one, in the order I acquire them. No repeat bands, of course. I had the idea after I ordered the 7” single for New Order’s Temptation. It will be fun, especially since I don’t know exactly which ones I’ll end up getting and I haven’t written about music in a long time. As soon as Temptation gets here I’m starting.

I liked their debut album a lot, and this is a very sweet set. Give it a listen.

The New York band Hospitality makes music that’s unmistakably friendly and welcoming — it’s hug-and-a-handshake pop that lives up to its name by jangling and chiming comfortably. The group doesn’t overwhelm so much as it wears listeners down with a subtle charm offensive. Watch the band perform at the NPR Music office.
